No matter what you think about graffiti, it would be hard not to find English artist Banksy's work interesting. I love the way he uses the urban landscape to his advantage, so that the characters become part of the canvas rather than simply covering it. In my opinion, it's great that he offers art and political commentary as a living, breathing part of the outdoors and available to everyone, rather than tucking it away in a museum.
As in most cities in Europe these days, there is a fair amount of grafitti around town, especially in the artists' districts. Here are some of the best ones I have seen this trip, mostly from Mitte, near where we are staying.
That's my brother Jonn with the Bunny-lady, who we have seen in several cities now.
Graphic images are all around us, now more so than any other time period to date. Cities are colored by graffiti (think of Barcelona, Buenos Aires), bodies are decorated with tatoos, our computers now use as many icons as there are words. For the most non-commital statement, there is the screen-printed tee.
Here are some images from around town, plus some photos of t-shirts that I have bought recently.
